Latest company blog about Commercial Maintenance Protocol: How Hotel Housekeeping Can Maintain Solid Surface Fixtures

For commercial property managers and hotel engineering teams, preserving the pristine "day-one" look of solid surface bathtubs, integrated basins, and shower trays is essential for guest satisfaction. Fortunately, the unique material characteristics of solid surface make daily maintenance remarkably straightforward compared to natural marble or delicate glazed ceramics.

Why Solid Surface Is Easy to Maintain

Solid surface (engineered stone) is a non-porous material throughout its entire mass. Unlike natural stone, it requires no sealer applications. Moisture, bacteria, mold, and cleaning chemicals cannot penetrate beneath the surface layer.

1. Daily Housekeeping Protocol

To remove routine body oils, soap scum, and light water spots:

  • Recommended Cleaners: Mild soapy water, ammonia-based surface cleaners, or standard neutral bathroom spray cleaners.

  • Cleaning Technique: Wipe in circular motions using a soft microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean warm water and dry with a soft towel to prevent mineral scaling from hard water.

2. Removing Stubborn Stains & Water Marks

For dried hair dyes, coffee, or hard water mineral rings:

  • Apply a gentle cream cleanser (such as Cif or Barkeepers Friend) or a mild diluted bleach solution to the affected area.

  • Rub lightly in small circular motions using a blue (non-scratch) scouring pad.

  • Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry.

3. On-Site Surface Restoration for Scratches

One of the distinct advantages of solid surface is that deep scratches or accidental burn marks do not require unit replacement:

  • Step 1: Clean the area with water to remove dust.

  • Step 2: Use fine-grit sandpaper (typically 400-grit to 800-grit depending on the matte level) and wet-sand the affected area gently in circular patterns until the scratch levels out.

  • Step 3: Buff the restored area with a Scotch-Brite™ pad to blend the finish seamlessly back into the surrounding matte surface.
